Mum and Dad, I am in a new class now!

We played new toys in a new way too. We learn math with more attributes. A little difficult by I can do it! Can you see that the rectangle shape is becoming visible with only 5 popsicle sticks. All I need is just my foot if there is anything short.

See, I can even build a house just nice for my size! It is so fun, you will never get a house with a tunnel in it. I want my house to be like this when I grow up!

We take pride in our students' success in early literacy

1st picture: N1 children drooling on that citrus aroma of the orange.
2nd picture: teacher acknowledged that by squeezing the orange. The juice splashed on their faces
creating humour.
3rd picture:once the children could match the words to the fruits, they are rewarded with a fruit feast.
Every year around the 3rd quarter of the year, it is always my pleasure to share with parents and the children on their literacy achievements through lots of play and a print-rich environment. In the above activity the main objectives are to:
1.create awareness of how material can be reuse (the styrofoam tray)
2.describe the texture and taste of the fruits with adjectives (in complete sentences)
3.match the prints to the correct fruits (even after reshuffling the words)
4.to observe that child say the word through phonetic cues.
Last but not least, as the Principal, I must also acknowledge all the work of the teachers and the good cooperation of parents. With this opportunity, I must also attribute the success to the important contribution from Teacher Darshini in reinforcing the project approach and multiple intelligences curriculum and ensuring that they are diligently delivered by her team. Without her dedicated followup, Phyllis will be torn into many parts and yet may not achieve what I am proud of today. Thanks everyone for all the efforts, patience and cooperation!

Super integrated activities that engaged our children cognitively

During the theme on animals, we not only learnt the general knowledge of category of animals such as farm animals, wild animals, pets etc. We looked at and discussed the animals diet like hen feeds on seeds. While doing all these, we have the fun of cracking melon seeds. We use the shells to outline the shape of the animal of our choice. It was so difficult that most of us decided to form a snake, cobra to be specific! Then we get the reward of eating the seeds, its really yummy!
We were further motivated to count the number of shells, correct method and answer during the process of counting will entitle us another melon seed. It was so enriching, how we hoped that mom & dad were here to join me then, perhaps we will get more yummy seeds!

Patterns all around us! -From the desk of Darshini, N2

Through the objectives of Logical/Mathematical and Environmental Intelligences in our curriculum for the theme of Animals, see how we learnt to be aware of patterns around us. We reinforced that awareness by expressing it through our visual/spatial intelligence activities. Then the beautiful masterpieces were put up on display. Everyday, not only do the children appreciate it, they talk and discuss about the details and process. Isn't that a wonderful environment that create happy and skillful learners at all time! It makes us happy seeing them 'interact' with their work among their friend. Well done children!

From the desk of teacher Darshini - Toddler & N1 classes

Our toddlers and nursery 1 children are simply amazing. With their memory and learning capacity, our school only believes that their skills and knowledge have expanded by this quarter through our project approach curriculum. Just to share with you on how project approach has been conducted over the past 1 month on the theme of wild animals:-
Project approach title: What is a mane and who has it?
Objectives: expansion of vocabulary(language), sensory, kinethetic, spatial & creativity
Phase 1: talking about hair & fur, deciding on the focus ie. mane
Phase 2: working on various materials to represent the mane on lion
Phase 3: extend to other wild animals with mane eg. horse, zebra

From the desk of teacher Darshini - N2 class

Our N2 classroom has been transformed into a mini safari. We decide the habitat for various types of animal such as farm animal, wild animal, reptile etc. This is called grouping you know? Welcome to our zoo!

We also dramatized the scene of animals communicating with each other with the mask that we have produced. Cutting with scissors is getting more difficulty, so tiny and straight stripes I needed to produce for the mane of the lion. But at the end of the day, the mask is simply beautiful. On top of that we learnt how to spell in a really fun way. We have letters to each piece of the puzzle. If you get the puzzle fixed, you get your spelling right! Besides that, BINGO activity made me very proud that my listening and linguistic skills are excellent. I knew it because my score is always 'BINGO'!

A gift for you Teacher Mom & Dad!

Dear moms & dads,
This week, we will be working on a gift for you in appreciation for your guidance and teachings since birth. Each and everyone puts in our best in the task while we incorporate the theme of creepy crawlies in this gift exclusively for you.
This special gift is really special! I saw teacher Phyllis put the thingy into her mouth, but she didn't die! She said it is called TIPS, made from vegetable fiber. But she refuses to let us taste it, sometimes she is really selfish just like she will never let us have chocolate and candy as snacks!
To give you a glimpse on how delicate your child is in this project...
K1

Step 1: wet the TIPS
Step 2: use it as crayon or water-colour or 3D modeling
Toddlers in action
Step 3: cut it & stick it to form patterns and prints!
At the end of the activity, the children were rewarded their favourite 'turn around' music & movement. Young children feel most happy and relax when certain equilibrium is achieved while turning around appropriately. Enjoy while watching your child is having fun, Happy Teachers' Day!

Our super busy schedule with lots of fun while learning

We were tricked to the zoo.... , no waterplay at all!
Instead, we were given lots of task. However, at the end of the day, we were quite happy with the beautiful work that we have produced! Most importantly, we learnt to categorize the shape and type of leaves. It is really not very easy you know! You really need to observe carefully and concentrate while doing it!

In our next lesson, we learnt about flowers.

The next thing we know is that the flowers are with our tree. This is teacher Phyllis, 'man'! She never let anything 'waste' by making sure there is a learning objective to it!
On the display wall, it says : "SPOT THE DIFFERENCES". You can spot them all like me too right, mum & dad? But T. Phyllis expects us to also be able to spot if at any point of time the leaf or leaves will fly away due to the very strong wind in our school or some 'itching' fingers pricked it off. She knows she is a bit crazy! But these are some of the things that she will never ever compromise! She always has reasons to make us aware of the our environment. Oh man, she will check on us everyday!!! Wind, wind, go away...let the children rest for days...

So much to do from planting the seed to harvesting!

Will my plant really grow tall and strong without soil? Will it be a long waiting?

It is a lot of effort awaiting for harvest. Through the following speech and drama activity, we learnt how the weather affects our crops.

Should it harvest, I will be all ready to count ....
(quantity and numerals at the Math corner)
... and collect them for my favourite salad.
(reinforcement of quantity through reading & writing)

Lets check out how the roots run underground! - K1

We are like farmers today using the shovel to dig and soften the soil where our pumpkin sprout.
It's satisfying to see the roots to the sprout. To continue our observation, we transplant it to a glass bottle.
